‘Reborn’ by Ahmed Nader Gretly

One must be destroyed,

In order to be reborn.

You’re covered in slime,

Man in white slaps your bottom,

You take a gasp of cold chemical air,

And let out a loud cry of protest.

Everyone congratulates the lady,

Whose legs are still spread open,

Exposing her dilated vaginal opening.

It’s a boy!

It’s a girl!

It’s a squid!

Man in white walks in with a big ol’ needle,

Shoves it into your soft wrinkled skin,

And let’s the drug flow into your bloodstream.

Man in white looks at you with a plastic smile

On his shaved face that radiates artificial care.

You look at the lonesome visitors’ chair in the corner,

And wonder what the fuck went wrong.

One must be destroyed,

In order to be reborn.

You get on one knee to propose to

Your woman who blushes as she says yes.

You’re at work and boss-man walks into your

Office reminding you of your early retirement date.

Your mother tells you that it’s not your fault

She and your father are getting a divorce.

You’re standing in the hospital worried about your

Wife as the man in white hands you your first born.

One minute you’re breathing fine,

The next you’re coughing blood at the dining table.

You’re dying, and you’re asking yourself;

Where did all the time go?
